Covington Georgia is most commonly known as the location where In The Heat Of The Night was filmed from 1988 to 1994. Stars such as Carrol O'Connor, Howard Rollins, Alan Autry, and Christian LeBlanc, to name a few, were often seen on the streets, especially near Covington's well-known downtown square. Many other locations around Covington, and in surrounding areas, were used in the filming of this great TV show.
For Dukes of Hazzard fans, you might be surprised to find that five of the earliest episodes were filmed in Covington, and in the neighboring town of Conyers. Every June, the streets of Covington are filled with General Lees and Hazzard County Sheriffs vehicles as part of the annual Dukes of Hazzard fans reunion. This is a great piece of Covington history to share with the new generation of potential Dukes fans.
In the early 1990s, another show was filmed in Covington, as well. I'll Fly Away, an hour long television show revolving around a southern lawyer in the 1950s, was filmed in Covington and surrounding areas.
The great appeal of Covington being used on camera doesn't stop with television. Many movies have scenes filmed in this great town, as well. The 1980s brought such movies as Cannonball Run, Friday The 13th: Jason Lives, and the Hallmark Presentation of Resting Place. Following the opening weekend box office success of Zac Efron’s High School Musical 3, Paramount Studios has greenlit a remake of Kevin Bacon’s 1984 film Footloose starring the young heartthrob.

The film, set in a town where dancing has been banned, is now in theatres, Variety reports. This Film Footloose was filmed in Covington as of 9-21-10.
